Yuchen Zhan, a first-year civil engineering student, has had a passion for technology and construction since childhood. For him, it is important that a degree course is strongly geared towards practice and prepares one for the world of work right from the start.
Why did you choose to study civil engineering?
 
I have always been attracted to technical subjects and construction, and at the age of 4-5 I developed an early passion for modelling, which later led me to choose a path related to technology and construction in high school. It therefore seemed natural to me to continue along this path and to enrol for a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Why did you choose SUPSI?
 
​​​​​​​I was looking for a school that would prepare me to enter the world of work immediately, something with a practical, concrete and professional approach. I had attended other schools, but they had an exclusively theoretical approach and this did not satisfy me. I therefore did some research and SUPSI seemed the right choice. I was supported in this choice by the head of the Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering at SUPSI, with whom I had a conversation and who clearly explained the programme and the school's pragmatic approach. Last but not least, I was also able to talk to several friends who had already attended SUPSI and recommended it highly.
What plans do you have for the future?
 
I have several options open to me. I would be happy to stay in civil engineering or real estate, but I am also attracted to the world of teaching and academia.
