It is aimed at students in possession of a high school leaving certificate, a non-technical vocational school-leaving certificate or a technical vocational school-leaving certificate not related to the construction and design sectors.
The training is divided into two distinct stages: an introductory course run by SUPSI, characterised by didactic activities aimed at acquiring theoretical and technical skills, followed by an internship period to be carried out in an architectural, civil engineering or interior design studio.
Study programme
- October/November: Theoretical lectures on professional knowledge, technical drawing, materials technology, geometric survey and intensive Computer Aided Design (CAD) seminar.
- December/August: Professional practice in a design studio.
In order to be admitted to the degree courses, the student must successfully complete both training phases.

Admission procedures
To apply for admission, visit the page of the relevant Bachelor course and finalise your enrolment by following the online procedure available on our Student Portal, selecting the pre-formative course of interest.
Admission deadline and requirements
The application form must be completed by the official deadline (30 April). An administrative fee of CHF 200.- is payable when submitting the application. For applications submitted after the deadline, the fee is CHF 300.-.The administrative fee is non-refundable and cannot be deducted from the annual fee.
Depending on the number of applications received, we reserve the right to extend the application period beyond the deadline.
Enrolment deadline: enrolment must be finalised, complete with all the required documentation, by the deadline of 31 July.
Required documentation: Hard copy of high school or vocational school leaving certificate and copy of internship contract. Non-resident students will be required to submit a copy of their work permit for employment in Switzerland before the start of the placement.
The practicum must be carried out in Switzerland and SUPSI offers active support in the search for a design studio for the practicum period.
Students not resident in Switzerland who follow the APA path and undertake an internship in Switzerland must obtain a work permit for G EU/EFTA cross-border commuters before the start of the practicum, informing their employer in advance.
If the permit is not granted, SUPSI is obliged to terminate the student's course.
Admission requirements
Applicants must be in possession of a high school leaving certificate, non-technical vocational school-leaving certificate or technical vocational school-leaving certificate not related to the field of construction and design.
APA training is limited to a maximum of 36 students and the availability of places for students from abroad is subject to the number of places available for candidates resident in Switzerland.
Should the number of enrolments exceed this limit, a ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the average baccalaureate certificate.
Costs and contributions
Annual fee
The course is free of charge for students residing in Switzerland (Swiss nationality or tax residence in Switzerland for at least two years)..
Students not residing in Switzerland are required to pay a fee of CHF 2,700 upon enrolment.
Application fee
A fee of CHF 200 is payable upon submission of the application form. If the application is submitted after the deadline, the fee is CHF 300.
The fee is non-refundable and cannot be deducted from the annual fee.
Teaching materials
Students are responsible for the cost of purchasing teaching materials.
